Our recent performance of SHAOLIN JAZZ L!VE, which quickly became a standing-room-only event, was, hands-down, one of our top 3 best performances to date and the fact that we conducted it at the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum (in the heart of SE DC) to both kick-off their Jazz Appreciation Month programming as well as in conjunction with the opening of their new A Right to the City exhibition made it all the more special.
Thanks to Perry and Marcia for bringing us, thanks to Sound of the City (band) for again allowing us to realize our vision through your musical talents, and props to everyone who attended making it a truly memorable show in, by, and for the city.

Introducing “perspectives,” our newest campaign which takes lead from our Lifestyle Marketing Interns (LMI). “perspectives” features photos that our LMI’s have shot, using their cell phones, of their environment (people, places, food, etc…) that they feel best relates to a SHAOLIN JAZZ project or engagement.
The images are then visually enhanced by the design team at Late Night Genius giving one both a unique perspective on the LMI’s environment in addition to the perspective of our specific project or engagement.
For our inaugural edition of “perspectives” we’ve asked our LMIs to take photos of objects that they feel best relates to our Byrd Over Staten release. We will highlight new “perspectives” visuals weekly and please check out the initial range by clicking Read the rest of this entry

In 2011 we released a 3-song EP entitled The Gil Scott Suite, a tribute to the late Gil Scott Heron. Now, we’re pleased to announce the next edition to the SHAOLIN JAZZ tribute series: Byrd Over Staton; an EP dedicated to the works of the late iconic Jazz musician and teacher, Donald Byrd. As with all previous releases, Byrd Over Staten is a conceptual project in which select songs and breaks from Donald Byrd’s vast collection of music are fused with lyrics and sound bites from the legendary Hip Hop group Wu-Tang Clan.
