We’ve been holding onto this one for a minute, but we’re extremely excited to announce that SHAOLIN JAZZ was recently selected to be apart of the Kennedy Center’s 2018-2019 Hip-Hop Culture Season, where we’ll be conducting a special edition of our CAN I KICK IT? engagement (on Saturday December 8th) and will be screening the 1979 cult classic The Warriors.
We’ve got more details to follow, but for tickets and additional info click here.
Our summer continues to shine and its been an absolute blessing for SHAOLIN JAZZ to have been granted these opportunities.
Our CAN I KICK IT? screening at the Freer/Sackler Gallery’s (The Smithsonian) Made in Hong Kong Film Festival was, from start to finish, nothing short of a good time. 2-Tone not only rocked the opening reception (which included live Martial Arts demonstrations, curated food and cocktails) but, immediately after the reception he proceeded downstairs to setup for and rock our screening, to a maximum capacity crowd, of the Shaw Bros’ 80’s classic Legendary Weapons of Kung Fu.
This event represented a couple of firsts for us, in that not only was this our first time conducting CAN I KICK IT? in a film festival, but that this was our first time (and hopefully not our last) rocking for a standing room only crowd.
Thanks to Tom and his team at the Freer/Sackler for once again bringing us back for another event, props to everyone who helped spread the word, special shouts to Ja’Mon for helping to hold down the merch table as well as shooting, and thanks to everyone who attended. Your support is very much appreciated.

This month, Tues. May 22nd at Songbyrd, join us for our next edition of CAN I KICK IT? as we screen the cult martial arts classic Shogun Assassin. Some might even consider this film to be a hip-hop classic as it was sampled and given prominence by one of the Wu-Tang Clan’s founding member’s GZA for his legendary debut album Liquid Swords.
