Despite some untimely tech issues, our experience at Art All Night couldn’t have gone better and we certainly hope that we were able to deliver a memorable experience for everyone who attended.
The good weather helped set the stage, which allowed Terence Nicholson to set the tone with another fiery martial arts demonstration, and it was great getting to vibe with old friends while creating new ones through educating them on the history of SHAOLIN JAZZ and what we do. The corner of North Cap and Florida will never be the same.
Thanks to Art All Night for having us out, shouts to JaMon for both documenting the event and assisting with the merch table, props to everyone who helped spread the word, including those who posted recaps, and thanks to everyone who attended.

Our CAN I KICK IT? screening at the Freer/Sackler Gallery’s (The Smithsonian) Made in Hong Kong Film Festival was, from start to finish, nothing short of a good time. 2-Tone not only rocked the opening reception (which included live Martial Arts demonstrations, curated food and cocktails) but, immediately after the reception he proceeded downstairs to setup for and rock our screening, to a maximum capacity crowd, of the Shaw Bros’ 80’s classic Legendary Weapons of Kung Fu.
This event represented a couple of firsts for us, in that not only was this our first time conducting CAN I KICK IT? in a film festival, but that this was our first time (and hopefully not our last) rocking for a standing room only crowd.
Thanks to Tom and his team at the Freer/Sackler for once again bringing us back for another event, props to everyone who helped spread the word, special shouts to Ja’Mon for helping to hold down the merch table as well as shooting, and thanks to everyone who attended. Your support is very much appreciated.

Our last Summer Flicks x CAN I KICK IT? screening featuring The Golden Child, despite it being cut short due to rain, was more than memorable. The story starts with this event being (or supposed to at least) a make-up for our screening of the same movie, which also got rained out on its original date!
Add to that that it rained earlier on Tues which begged the questioned, would we still be able to do it? We received a wave of inquiries via social media and email asking if we’d still be conducting the screening, especially with it being our last and The Golden Child being a favorite for a lot of people. Lo and behold, we ended up getting the green light from the DowntownDC BID and to our excitement we were greeted by over 200 eager attendees.
And in our effort to not disappoint, 2-Tone spun one of his best sets, DowntownDC BID surprised guests with free ice-cream, and everyone got a sample of the high impact Jiu Jitsu (martial arts) demonstration from Darcio Lira Jiu Jitsu. Thanks to our Jay Coleman for setting that up!
Thanks again to the DowntownDC BID for bringing us back for another run, props to Darcio Lira Jiu Jitsu for the demo, shouts to our cadre of media partners who helped spread the word about this year’s festivities, and special thanks to everyone who attended. We certainly hoped you enjoyed the events as much as we enjoyed giving them and we look forward to seeing everyone as we’re back home at Songbyrd DC for our monthly CAN I KICK IT? events. That being said, catch us there Tues. July 24th for the screening of Under Siege.
