Summer Flicks x CAN I KICK IT? / feat Romeo Must Die / Recap

We’re halfway thru our outdoor series and its great to see how, each week, the crowds continue to grow, in addition to how diverse the crowds are from literally every category of demographic.  Age, sex, ethnicity, religion, etc…these events are a testament to how art, not to mention a good time, can bring people together, from all walks of life.

Thank you to everyone who attended (including those who participated in the 90’s costume contest), thanks to DJ Miss H.E.R for setting the tone, and shouts to our media partners.

We look forward to seeing everyone next Tues. July 10 for Jean Claude Van-Damme’s breakout movie Bloodsport.

Summer Flicks x CAN I KICK IT? / feat Rumble in the Bronx / Recap

We strive to bring you truly unique experiences, with our SHAOLIN JAZZ engagements, and with this year’s Summer Flicks x CAN I KICK IT? outdoor series we’ve not only expanded the number and styles of DJs to open before select movies, but we also wanted to curate a range of martial arts demonstrations featuring a range of styles.  And at this past Tuesday’s CAN I KICK IT? we were proud to feature, to even bigger crowd of attendees, the the International Capoeira Angola Foundation.

Thank you to everyone who attended, as well as those who spread the word, and we hope to see you next Tues June 19 as we bring you Eddie Murphy’s iconic martial arts – comedy, The Golden Child.

DJ P.U.D.G.E open things up at 7:30 PM, along with games and activities provided by DPR with the movie starting around 8:45 PM.

CAN I KICK IT? / feat Drunken Master / Recap

This past CAN I KICK IT? – serious good times.  No heavy recap on this one, but of course thanks to everyone who attended, Songbyrd for hosting, salute to everyone who reposted, and shouts to Lex and DAVIS for the onsite support.  Got things in development for our next event 3.20.18, so stay tuned here and @SHAOLINJAZZ.

CAN I KICK IT? / feat Kick Boxer / Recap

On Tues. we introduced CAN I KICK IT? to 2018 and what better way to bring in the new year than doing so in-style.  Nu Wears, a new men’s accessories line by notable producer SlimKat76, held down the pop-up shop – upping our “style game” as well as the “style-game” for those fashion-forward people who bought the brand’s hand crafted ties and handkerchiefs.

Thank you to everyone who attended, props to Songbyrd for hosting and shouts to Terry for holding down the bar, salute to Nu Wears for supporting, and much appreciated to everyone who spread the word.  Lastly, salute to DJ Iran for dropping some gems on the turntables.  If you stayed long enough you got blessed with some rare samples.

Next up, on Tues. Feb. 27th we bring you a classic from the Jackie Chan archive – Drunken Master.  See you then and for the full recap click Read the rest of this entry

CAN I KICK IT? / feat Enter the Dragon / Recap

Taking risks are apart of business, but when you build your brand a certain way and you plan and execute your marketing strategy properly those risks pay off and our final CAN I KICK IT? of 2017 exemplifies that risk, as we decided to conduct it the day after Christmas, despite a number of people responding after hearing the news, “You’re going to it when?” and “Are you sure, its the day after Christmas?”

The answers to those questions came in the form of us having our biggest crowd to date at Songbyrd, where standing-room-only quickly came into effect.  And the irony is that Songbyrd actually bought more chairs which was great because they did get used, however, the demand persisted.

SHAOLens

Hung out with the homie SHAOLens last Saturday and took him to see/hear DJ Soyo and DJ Cerebral kill it at Lounge of 3.  Always a good time.  Check out a few more of his flicks here Read the rest of this entry

The Last Dragon – Recap

Glad so many of you got a chance to experience CAN I KICK IT? on Tues.  And although each film is different, I’ve been getting an almost familial feeling as these events have progressed. Beyond this being a SHAOLIN JAZZ experience, we like to think of these as cultural experiences for people to enjoy.  To view the full recap click Read the rest of this entry
