Got a chance to attend the SAAM Arcade annual event this year which was hosted by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and its partners. One hundred fifty independent developers have submitted their games while additional arcade cabinets and consoles were provided by MagFest, Death by Audio Arcade, Arcades4Home, and CrabTowne USA. Game building workshops were also presented by Boolean Girl and the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

June 2017 has been a milestone month for SHAOLIN JAZZ in that our CAN I KICK IT? engagement, which started as a simple idea developed during one of our college trips in MA, has grown into an event that’s rocked hundreds of people in our hometown, at one of the most iconic national monuments in our nation’s capital. Simply put, we made something out of nothing, which is precisely how SHAOLIN JAZZ even started. And we were able to add to the creative cultural fabric of our city and share it with friends and family which is uniquely special.
We more than appreciate the Downtown DC BID for wanting SHAOLIN JAZZ to conduct CAN I KICK IT? to help launch their Downtown Summer Flick series; we’d like to send an enormous bid of thanks to DC Music Download for their top tier PR support; thank you to our community and media partners: Lil SoSo Productions, 202creates, DC Funk Parade, Listen Local First DC, Zipcar, Boss Shepherd’s, Pret-A-Manger, the Mayor’s office on African American Affairs for their marketing and promotional support; props to everyone who’s helped to spread the word and shared their experience(s); and we cannot thank you enough to the individuals who’ve attended one, some, and, in some cases, all four screenings.
