Dangelo_FHNYC15-2583Who or what first got you interested in photography?

Music, Fashion & my Mom.  Music has always played a big part of my life.  My mother would attend concerts and shared her photos & stories.  My mother took me to see New Edition, the music & the lights …just the whole vibe and emotions that I felt instilled a love of music in me. And I wanted to capture that.  Then the hip-hop scene further intensified my love for photography.

Early on what were some of the first things that you began to document?

The usual stuff; family, rocks, my feet but that’s when I was a little girl.  When I picked up the camera again as an adult it was my love for live concerts, wanting to capture that moment.  For the entire read click Read the rest of this entry

I’ve always been into creating visuals.  I’ve been teaching myself photoshop since 12 years old.  At about 20 years old, my close friend purchased a digital camera.  I borrowed his camera whenever I wanted to shoot something but soon after, his mother felt I was borrowing it too much so I barley asked for it, which was a blessing in disguise.  That’s when I had to purchase my own camera, it was a Polaroid.

Early on what were some of the first things that you began to document?
I’m a people person.  Generally, healthy and organic interactions make it easier to coexist amongst others.  My subjects are made up of creative individuals, all of whom are chasing a dream to create a better reality for themselves.  Via photography, I’m simply assisting them on their journey but subconsciously building a body of work of my own.  For the entire read click Read the rest of this entry

pic2Who or what first got you interested in photography?

I was first introduced to the art of photography while at Howard university.  While there I was surrounded with friends also interested in the arts. After discussing our dreams and aspirations to do what we saw in the magazines, we decided to start doing our own photo shoots.  From that point on I was hooked on the idea of capturing the beautiful things around me with my camera.

DOCUMENT the Fresh – Interviews: Dafna Steinberg

Who or what first got you interested in photography?

When I was about 7, my mom gave me my very first camera. Then when I was 13, I learned how to work in a darkroom. Needless to say, I’ve been shooting for a very long time.

Early on what were some of the first things that you began to document?

When I was a kid, I used to set up all my stuffed animals in my room and do group portraits with them.

What is it about photography that you most enjoy?

Photography allows me to show others how I see the world. I tend to notice things that a lot of people tend to pass by. I like photographing things in fragments which is why so many of my photos are detail shots.

Talk about the first event and or concert that you shot.  How’d it go?

The first event I ever shot, I was still in high school. I was living in Zaragoza, Spain and snuck a point and shoot camera into a Carlos Santana concert. Somehow, I managed to get myself into the front row and got some great shots. All without getting caught!  For the entire read click Read the rest of this entry
