On Tues. we introduced CAN I KICK IT? to 2018 and what better way to bring in the new year than doing so in-style. Nu Wears, a new men’s accessories line by notable producer SlimKat76, held down the pop-up shop – upping our “style game” as well as the “style-game” for those fashion-forward people who bought the brand’s hand crafted ties and handkerchiefs.
Thank you to everyone who attended, props to Songbyrd for hosting and shouts to Terry for holding down the bar, salute to Nu Wears for supporting, and much appreciated to everyone who spread the word. Lastly, salute to DJ Iran for dropping some gems on the turntables. If you stayed long enough you got blessed with some rare samples.
Next up, on Tues. Feb. 27th we bring you a classic from the Jackie Chan archive – Drunken Master. See you then and for the full recap click Read the rest of this entry
Join us for our 1st CAN I KICK IT? of 2018, Mon Jan. 23rd, feat the cult classic Kick Boxer starring Jean Claude Van Damme, at Songbyrd Music House & Record Cafe. We’re also happy to announce that NU Wear, DC based men’s accessories brand will be the featured brand in the pop-up shop. For additional info/RSVP click here.
Taking risks are apart of business, but when you build your brand a certain way and you plan and execute your marketing strategy properly those risks pay off and our final CAN I KICK IT? of 2017 exemplifies that risk, as we decided to conduct it the day after Christmas, despite a number of people responding after hearing the news, “You’re going to it when?” and “Are you sure, its the day after Christmas?”
The answers to those questions came in the form of us having our biggest crowd to date at Songbyrd, where standing-room-only quickly came into effect. And the irony is that Songbyrd actually bought more chairs which was great because they did get used, however, the demand persisted.

What better way to end the year than with one of the best and most iconic martial arts films – Enter the Dragon starring legendary martial arts icon Bruce Lee. Join us on Tues Dec. 26th (decompress after the holiday), @SongByrdDC. For more Info/RSVP click here.
For this to be our first ‘fan pick’ edition of CAN I KICK IT? we were pleasantly surprised. When you do something new, you have no idea what’s going to happen, but then you have moments like this where people participated with lots of and in some cases – very random suggestions of movie titles and then there’s the surprise announcement of the film that night, which, as we hoped would happen, proved to be the icing on the cake.
In the end, Road House, a classic title from the late 80’s starring Patrick Swayze (RIP), won the night. Props to Songbyrd for hosting and thanks again to everyone who came thru as well as all of those who spread the word. Lastly, special shout to Maishah for also run our pop-up shop.
